Bridget Cleland wins Winifred Templeton Award

The Winifred Templeton Award had its inaugural presentation in 1987 and was established to commerate the outstanding contribution made to hockey by the late Mrs Winifred Templeton, MBE, Honorary Secretary of the Ulster Women's Hockey Union for over 40 years. The Award, in conjunction with the Mary Peters Trust, is presented annually and is designed to encourage and recognise achievement by individuals within Ulster Hockey.

In July 2010 Bridget Cleland reached a milestone few women's hockey players have achieved gaining her 150th cap for Ireland against Australia in Dublin. In December Bridget announced her retirement from International Hockey, a decision that came as a result of increasing work and family demands and meant that she could not give the commitment required to meet the demands of International sport.

However, whilst the curtain came down on Bridget's distinguished international career, her role as player/coach for Ballymoney Hockey Club has brought unprecedented success for the club during the past season. Her leadership and coaching enabled Ballymoney to attain success the club has never been able to achieve in its 27 year history by winning the One 1918 Ulster Shield and ending a thirteen year run of Pegasus by winning the One 1918 Premier League.
